Architecture, materials and build quality: what sets a Brookworth home apart
The past few years have seen a major boom in UK homebuyers looking for a new build property. Driven by the appeal of less maintenance and higher quality, 48% planned to buy a new build home in 2024, compared to just 27% in 2023.
Before now, the property market has been home to some key misconceptions about new build homes. Data from the Chartered Institute of Building estimated that 55% of adults believed an older property would be 'of higher quality', while technology firm Alt Index reported that 25% felt that new builds 'lacked character'.
Taking the property market as a whole, that may well be true. But, at Brookworth Homes, we’ve built our reputation on surprising homebuyers with a level of quality, care and individuality they just wouldn’t expect from a new build home.
It’s not that the data is wrong. It’s that our high-end new build homes across the UK are bold, lovingly designed outliers for the most discerning homeowners.
Combining character with luxury new build quality
When we’re asked why new builds look the same, our go-to explanation is the efficiency that comes from copying someone else’s homework. When you’re a developer driven by scale, it’s natural that you’ll take a development that works, then replicate it wherever you can. That’s what can lead to a cookie-cutter feel, where every new home looks and feels the same.
As a high-end property developer, we can be more selective in the locations we choose and the properties we build there. As a result, we can select the most inspiring towns and communities, then use that inspiration to influence the homes we create.
Collections that work alongside their communities
As our foundation, we invest time and energy in getting to know the communities we’re becoming a part of.
In part, that means understanding what our potential residents want and need, whether that’s a spacious chalet bungalow at Braeburns, Welford on Avon, or The Exchange’s sleek apartments in the heart of Cheltenham.
But it’s also about designing developments that reflect and complement the surrounding area. This is something you’ll see at some of our more rural developments, with increased green space to strengthen your link to nature. By taking inspiration from their communities, every development has its own character and identity when taken as a whole.
Embracing architectural individuality
Many homeowners are surprised at how individual our new build homes look, even within a single development. Each property has its own charm and character, driven by its location, the surrounding context and architectural flourishes.
At Gallica in Sissinghurst, you’ll find similarly sized properties with significantly different profiles. Plot 9 offers a balanced, double-fronted look, while plot 10 is designed to take advantage of its unique corner location.
Even where two neighbouring properties use a similar overall design, our architects add variety through materials and design details like gables, entryways and decorative brickwork.
At Skylarks in Brighton, you’ll find characterful, varied architecture including:
Elegant brick archways across the doors to plots 5 and 43
Decorative brickwork that’s red on some properties, painted white on others
Several properties with catslide roof styles, adding character

Traditional build new homes with an emphasis on quality
While our homes may be new, our emphasis on quality and tradition is timeless. Our craftspeople use traditional methods at every stage of construction, helping to add personality to each of our properties. This is combined with robust quality assurance to ensure our uncompromising standards are met, every step of the way.
Modern environments, created using time-tested methods
When you develop property at scale, using modern, modular construction methods is often the only way to meet your cost and time commitments. But these can often lead to a 'toy town' feel, especially through steel frames or prefabricated roofs and panels.
At Brookworth, we emphasise traditional construction methods, delivered by talented craftspeople. We use conventional brick-and-block construction with wet trades on site, bringing together experts in every aspect of homebuilding to create one-of-a-kind homes. And we extend the same focus on tradition to many of our partners and suppliers, working with historic brands like Miele for appliances and Deuren for doors.
Selecting the finest local materials
Wherever possible, we also choose materials that reflect the local area and, in most cases, come directly from it. At Skylarks, you’ll find finishes that are in keeping with the local Sussex style, including locally sourced flint and hanging wall tiles above facing brick at the lower levels.
Many of these materials and finishes are costly and challenging to work with, but they add a sense of local character that you wouldn’t otherwise expect from a new build.
Brookworth Homes: individuality meets maintenance-free quality
Across architecture, materials and taking inspiration from the local area, every Brookworth home has a real sense of character. Our considered approach to design and construction stands out amid new build homes and, crucially, gives your home its own identity.
Our approach also impacts quality. By focusing on traditional construction methods, we avoid the pitfalls of hastily put together homes from prefabricated parts. And by ensuring the architecture of your home is highly tailored to its context, neighbours and surrounding community, we create places that feel premium and bespoke.
